Congratulations to CASS Chairperson Dr Bo Zhou on Winning the NSW Volunteer of the Year Award for the Northern Beaches Region

November 3, 2022

Quite Achiever Serving the Multicultural Communities for More Than 25 Years

We are delighted to share that Dr Bo Zhou, CASS Chairperson, won the Adult Volunteer of the Year and Overall Regional Volunteer of the Year Awards for the Northern Beaches Region! He will enter the competition for the NSW Volunteer of the Year Award later this year at Gala State Ceremony.

Dr Zhou thanked CASS for providing him an opportunity to serve the community and being recognised. He attributed the Award and achievement to the joint effort of CASS team members.

Dr Zhou has been volunteering and helping the elderly, young people and others in need from culturally and linguistically diverse communities at CASS for more than 25 years, an organisation that services Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese and other CALD communities. He began assisting with the Academy of Arts by providing voluntary support in venue set up, finance and administration work. His enthusiasm and commitment to volunteer work led to the appointment to the CASS Board of Directors as the Treasurer then.

Over the years, Dr. Zhou has dedicated himself to CASS and community work, provided a range of professional support including financial, corporate governance and translation services to the organization. He also represents CASS in events hosted by the government or other community organisations.

Furthermore, Dr Zhou has led CASS through a series of fundraising efforts to raise funds for the building of our first residential aged care facility (RACF), providing high quality residential services to seniors from East Asian backgrounds.

Dr. Bo Zhou graduated from Peking University. He came to Sydney in the 1980s to study a postgraduate course in geology at the University of Sydney. He completed a three-year PhD research project in Antarctic geology at the University of New South Wales and got the MBA qualification afterward. As a senior management executive of an international company, the hectic work schedule has not deterred him from volunteering for the Australian community all the time.

A huge congratulations to Dr Bo Zhou and all the award winners! Thank you to all our amazing volunteers for your dedication and contributions to the community!
