Linda Burney MP Visits Hurstville Child Care Centre’s New Garden funded by Stronger Communities Programme
In the morning of 10 April 2019, Federal member for Barton, the Hon Linda Burney MP visited Hurstville Child Care Centre (HCCC) run by CASS and its newly built garden at 48 Queens Road, Hurstville. With the assistance of Linda Burney MP, HCCC obtained a funding of $9,400 under the federal government’s Stronger Communities Programme for the building of this garden.
Nowadays, kids seldom have a chance to get in touch with nature as many of their families reside in high rise apartments. This new garden in HCCC tackles this issue by offering many opportunities for children to grow plants and experience the benefits of the activity. Linda Burney MP remarked, “The new garden is a fantastic way to educate young children about the benefits of recycling and composting, promote better nutrition, and provide them with the opportunity to cook with food they’ve grown and harvested themselves!”
The kids greeted Ms Linda Burney enthusiastically and showed her the innovative teaching tools around the Centre, such as the Smart Board. They excitedly showed her the food they cooked during the interactive cooking class.
Ms Linda Burney then took a tour around the newly renovated centre, which includes the Creative Art Studio. The staff at the Centre also introduced her to the many free programs for children as well as yoga and Chinese Language class, etc.
