Privacy Statement

CASS is committed to ensuring the protection and privacy of all individuals with whom it interacts and from whom it collects information, including clients, employees, volunteers, and other stakeholders (‘You’). Your privacy is important to us and we recognise the community’s awareness regarding the collection, use, disclosure and security of personal information. The purpose of this Privacy Statement is to explain how CASS collects and handles your personal information, and to provide details on whom you can contact if you have any questions or concerns.

CASS complies with all Australian privacy related laws, regulations and the Australian Privacy Principles in handling personal information collected from service users, business partners, staff and volunteers.

CASS will only collect, store and use personal information for the purpose necessary to carry out our functions and provide our services. Your personal information will not be disclosed to any 3rd parties unless consent is given by you or is authorised or required by law.

Personal information refers to data about an identified individual or someone who can reasonably be identified. This includes, but is not limited to, names, addresses, personal preferences, and observations. In some circumstances it can include photographs and footage.

CASS collects personal information via:

  • CASS website including through forms or survey;
  • Directly from you, either in person, over the phone, by email or by post.

CASS collects personal information from you so we can do one or more of the following:

  • Provide you with our services and assistance;
  • Process your donation;
  • To verify your identity;
  • Process your membership;
  • Enable you to participate in our activities;
  • To tailor our services to your needs and improve our services.

Your personal details are collected and stored in an appropriately secure format and managed by authorised CASS staff and personnel in compliance with applicable government requirements. When the information is no longer required for the purposes for which it was collected, it will be securely deleted.

You may wish to access, correct or update some aspects of the personal information we hold about you. If so, please submit a formal request to CASS. To ensure your information is only given to you, we will need to verify your identity.

We would like to remind you to avoid clicking on links in emails, or sharing your personal information on the phone or by email, unless you are certain that the person contacting you is an approved CASS staff and legitimate intentions. When in doubt, please contact CASS directly for verification.

We are committed to protect your privacy. In the event that your personal information is lost, stolen or subject to unauthorised access or disclosure, CASS will implement the Data Breach Response Plan. CASS will also adhere to its obligations under the Privacy Act and its ancillary amendments in relation to any required notifications to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and to those individuals whose personal information have been affected.
