Winning Entries of the “Combating COVID-19: Turning Isolation Into Creativity” Competition Part 1

May 27, 2020

Entries we received are artistic, creative and inspiring, covering a very varied field of topics, reflecting keen interests of people in the community from various cultural backgrounds. We had to make hard decisions to pick the winning entries, and we wish to share these brilliant works with you.

Mr Zou is from Chinese background and is a resident of Castle Hill. In the video he shows us how he practises Chinese calligraphy while staying at home. Through his works it is evident that he has strong faith in combating COVID-19 pandemic with the entire community, and he wishes everyone propitiousness and safety.

Mr Kim is from Korean background. You can tell that he is truly a calligraphy enthusiast, by the ink brushes of various sizes and shapes on his desk as well as the framed artworks on the wall. His calligraphy includes not only Korean fonts but also Chinese fonts, using different techniques to present the beauty of the two languages.

This artist started his exploration in drawing in his high school days. He has not drawn for years until 8 years ago, he survived a near-tragic car accident and restarted drawing under the instructions from his therapist.

In this works he tried a new technique to present the hazy waves in the background. The lighthouse represents guardian and light, which reflects his confidence and optimism in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
