Combat Social Isolation and Connect Seniors Online

October 2, 2020

The outbreak of COVID-19 has impacted the lives across Australia, in particularly for seniors who are among the higher risk group and their daily lives have been significantly affected. Many older individuals have chosen to minimize their outings or stay at home which has caused great difficulties in many aspects of their lives and is extremely detrimental to their mental wellbeing.

To keep the Chinese seniors updated with the latest information and prevent them from losing contact with mainstream society, CASS being a dedicated community services provider, has organised an online webinar “Quality Home Ageing Services” on 23 July via virtual video conferencing. This webinar attracted over 60 seniors. Participants were able to obtain useful information on ageing services, community welfare, health information and have their questions answered by professionals in the comfort of their own homes.

Similarly through the use of virtual communication tool, CASS has introduced another online program called “Connecting Seniors with no Boundary” since June, with the aim to enable seniors to continue their social activities during the pandemic and assist them to maintain their physical and mental wellbeing. This program also allows those seniors with health or mobility issues who are at home for long period of time to socialise with others, provide emotional support for each other and reduce social isolation. This innovative program has been warmly welcomed by seniors since started and the number of participants has been increasing rapidly. The program is conducted via virtual video conferencing each Wednesday between 10am to 11:30 am. All members of the community are welcome to join and engage in simple stretching exercises, discussion on recent news, sharing stories and playing online games etc.

For enquires or to register, please contact CASS on 0437 956 639 (Ms. Lam) or 02 9718 7305 ext. 125 (Ms. Zhou). You can also find the latest community updates from CASS’ various social media platforms or websites.
