Dr Leng Tan – Winner of 2019 NSW Women of the Year Community Hero Award
Dr Leng Tan, our CASS Emeritus Chairperson, has won the Community Hero Award, one of the seven categories in the 2019 Women of the Year Awards Program.

Dr Leng Tan is a general practitioner. In Australia and overseas, she fights for people’s welfare. Dr Tan plays the leadership role in two renowned community organisations – Chinese Youth League (CYL) and CASS. For CASS, she worked hard to provide a service similar to family day care and seek government funding. Under her leadership, CASS established its own child care service, and has rapidly expanded to provide aged care, disability services and many other services tailored to needs of Chinese and Korean community. Now CASS is expanding to provide service to other ethnic groups such as Indonesian and Vietnamese.
Through her involvement with Eyes on China, she has provided free cataract surgeries to people in remote communities, giving people with the gift of sight. The honour is not just for her, but is also a great recognition of the Asian community’s contribution to the Australian society!
