New Accommodation Service “CASS Yagoona Elderly Hostel”, Best Choice in Seniors Housing Option
Accommodation is often a concern for many Chinese seniors, especially when their children have started their own families. Many would like to have their private living space to avoid conflicts that may arise from living with their children in the same household, as this could be a way to maintain good relationship between all. However, these seniors often would not be able to afford the high rental in Sydney, and with the long waiting period for community housing, there is insufficient resources to meet their urgent needs. Understanding such situation, CASS is determined to start its “CASS Yagoona Elderly Hostel” project even without the support from government funding, with the aim to provide independent seniors with affordable accommodation service.
CASS Yagoona Elderly Hostel is located at 253 Cooper Road, Yagoona and is set in a quiet residential neighbourhood close to parks, community facilities and a 5-minute walk to Yagoona station and bus stop. It is conveniently located with major shopping centres and Chinese supermarkets in the neighbouring suburb of Bankstown.
The two-story building was formerly a residential aged care facility. CASS has refurbished the ground floor and enhanced its surroundings to utilise the building as a hostel for seniors, offering 33 single and 4 double rooms with some containing private en-suites. Each room is spacious and bright, equipped with furniture to provide the residents with a safe and comfortable living environment. There is also a communal laundry and kitchen that are accessible by the residents. The hostel consists of several multipurpose rooms plus dining areas. A wide range of recreational activities are to take place in the activity rooms, Chinese satellite television together with Chinese newspapers are also available. Residents are provided with fresh, nutritious Asian meals every evening, ensuring they have all the benefits of home living.
The hostel’s rent is lower than the standard market rate, additional fee will apply for other associated costs including water, electricity, meals and other services. People who are aged 55 or over from Chinese background, with permanent residency/citizenship and are able to look after themselves independently may apply.
